I am the absolute worst at thanking the people in my life. And I am especially bad at thanking those who mean the most because I know that they will always be there no matter what.
Going into my last semester of college none of my close friends were planning to come back. I was sure that school and work were going to fill my life and that I didn’t really need any close friends, because even though mine were hours away, I still had friends, right? Even when I thought that I was all alone, God brought the right people into my life.
You could look up almost any Pinterest quote about friends, and I would say that most of them are probably true. Friends are people you can count on. Friends laugh, even if the joke isn’t that funny, and cry, even if it’s not that sad.
I thank God every time I think about it for the people he has placed in my life.
So, here’s my list of thank yous:
- Thank you for texting me what you were wearing to the party, so I could dress up the same amount.
- Thank you for offering me hugs, even when COVID said we shouldn’t.
- Thank you for sharing new songs or great movies that we can enjoy together.
- Thank you for laughing at my ridiculous and often cheesy jokes.
- Thank you for being willing to talk about what God is doing in our lives.
- Thank you for supporting me and giving me courage to try new things.
- Thank you for answering the phone, even when it was a bad time for you.
- Thank you for coming to visit me when I lived close, or when I lived far.
- Thank you for encouraging me to always pursue my passions.
- Thank you for still loving me when other people came into both of our lives.
- Thank you for just being there.
When I take the time to sit down and appreciate those around me, I realize that I have many people in my life that mean the world to me. And this challenges me to always strive to be the friend that I needed, the stranger that went out of their way to say hi, and the person that shows Christ’s love to those around me.
Part of the magic of a friend comes with the effort to be a good friend in return.
